On Sunday, May 5th, Uttar Pradesh police apprehended Mehar Jahan, a 30-year-old woman, for burning her husband’s genitals with cigarettes and attempting to mutilate them with a knife, as per The Free Press Journal.
The incident transpired in Chak Mehood village, falling under the jurisdiction of Seohara police station in Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh.
On April 29th, Mehar Jahan allegedly spiked her husband Mannan Zaidi’s milk with intoxicants, rendering him unconscious. Subsequently, she bound his hands and legs and subjected him to brutal torture.
The episode was captured on camera by the victim, who had clandestinely installed it to document his wife’s ongoing abuse over the past year. The footage, now circulating on the internet, depicts Mannan Zaidi pleading with his wife, to no avail.
Following the ordeal, Zaidi lodged a complaint with the Seohara police station. He disclosed that he had married Mehar Jahan on November 17th the previous year, only to discover her smoking and drinking habits post-marriage.
Upon objecting to her habits, Zaidi alleged that Mehar Jahan issued death threats and subjected him to mental and physical harassment. Additionally, he accused her of attempting to strangle him to death.
According to some reports, the couple had been in a romantic relationship prior to marriage. However, upon learning about Jahan’s smoking and drinking habits and his conservative Muslim background, Zaidi initially declined to marry her. Nevertheless, she allegedly threatened him with a false rape case.
Furthermore, Zaidi claimed that Jahan threatened to falsely implicate him and incarcerate him. Confirming the arrest, SP Dharampal Singh stated that Mehar Jahan had been taken into custody.
An FIR was filed against Mehar Jahan under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 328 (causing hurt using poison or intoxicating substances), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
